Data from National Cancer Institute suggests that nearly 90,000 gynecological cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in U.S in the year 2012. The National Cancer Institute confirms that more than about half of the above data are cervical cancer cases, half of the expected deaths will be due to ovarian cancer.
These five cancers are sure to take at least 30,000 lives this year.
Early detection can help save lives so keep the eyes open for the signs:
Study researcher Cynthia Gelb, a health communication specialist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention affirmed "Our findings illustrate the need to inform women about gynecologic cancer symptoms, and when to seek care. All signs for cancers are similar but may not be deadly," Gelb said, they may be benign in nature, timely intervention by a health care provider can solve the dilemma.
Study details
Gelb and her team carried out a study on 132 women from Chicago, Miami, New York and Los Angeles. The group of women roped in the study were between 40 to 60 years of age. They were divided into groups with 7-9 participants and were administered focus-group interviews. The interaction took place for about two hours.
Participants were handed out a list with 8 symptoms of gynecological cancer. There was a group discussion of the cause of symptoms and the most worrying symptoms the women faced. The women were disturbed by discharge and unusual vaginal bleeding listing this as ?serious? and cancerous, changes in vulva skin, or painful pressure in pelvic region could be a symptom of cancer the women felt.
The new study was published in the journal Family Practice on Sept. 3 .
Symptoms identified
A consensus was seen in 5 symptoms: Itching and burning in vaginal area, tiredness, bloating, abdominal or back pain, and frequent urination. These may indicate a major problem and thus needs timely intervention. "Some women reported living with symptoms that caused discomfort for extended periods, even years, without seeking care," stated Gelb.
Women should be aware of their periods, immediate fullness on eating food, and frequent agonizing back pain said Gelb. Unusual bleeding, and bloating symptoms for about 2 weeks should be attended to right away.
Gelb recommended getting knowledge from reputable sites like CDC's "Inside Knowledge" site for correct information on the subject.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ? A former teen pageant princess featured in an eyebrow-raising episode of "Wife Swap" getting spray-tanned by her father and pitying the less attractive will plead not guilty this week to charges of prostitution and drug possession, her lawyer said.
Alicia Guastaferro was arrested at a western New York Thruway travel plaza in August. State troopers investigating a complaint of erratic driving reported finding her and a Rochester attorney "slumped over" and apparently passed out in a running car.
The 21-year-old Guastaferro told troopers she had met attorney James Doyle while bartending in Niagara Falls two years earlier and that he paid her $500 to $700 twice a month to spend the night with him and have sex, according to court documents. The drug charges involve prescription medication in her purse.
Guastaferro, who also was charged with initially lying to troopers about her name and age, will plead not guilty in Pembroke Town Court on Tuesday, said her lawyer, Dan Killelea. He declined to comment further. Killelea said he advised Guastaferro not to talk about her case while it is pending.
Doyle, meanwhile, is due in court in November on charges of drunken driving, patronizing a prostitute and unlawfully dealing with a child for allegedly buying Guastaferro drinks. The 54-year-old has denied the allegations, telling local media in August they were "factually and morally wrong." He declined to say anything more when reached by phone Friday.
Guastaferro's appearance on a 2008 episode of ABC's "Wife Swap," recorded when she was 15, made her an instant target of ridicule at school and sent her into psychiatric care for post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, an eating disorder and panic attacks, Guastaferro said in a $100 million lawsuit she filed in 2010 against ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney Co.
The episode showed her parents doing Guastaferro's homework, tucking gifts beneath a yearround Christmas tree and buying her a Chevrolet Tahoe that she was too young to drive.
In her lawsuit, Guastaferro said scenes of her saying things like "I do feel sorry for people that are not gorgeous people" and being spray-tanned by her father were staged and that she was told to "act a little more spoiled."
The lawsuit was settled last year. The terms were not disclosed, according to Nathan Siegel, who represented the network.
Last year, while Guastaferro was working as a dancer at a strip club, her parents were sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to criminal charges.
Ralph Guastaferro was sentenced to two years in prison for laundering $1.2 million for a Canadian telemarketing scheme through two business checking accounts he opened. His wife, Karen, was given three years of probation for paying employees of the couple's suburban Buffalo glass-tinting business off the books.
Alicia Guastaferro's letters to the sentencing judge seeking leniency for her parents describe her mental distress and high doses of prescription medicine, which she said her parents monitored.
"I need my parents more than anything right now in my life as they help me survive each and every day," she wrote in a letter submitted to the court in June 2011.
Alicia Guastaferro also is a plaintiff in a pending lawsuit claiming she and other dancers were denied overtime pay for their work for the owner of several strip clubs.
Gold prices fell on Monday as concerns over the global economic outlook and its impact on the coming corporate earnings season weighed on investor sentiment. But national holidays in the US and Japan were expected to limit trading activity and may have been partially responsible for the dip in gold prices.

The?World Bank?cut its estimate for East Asian growth including for?China, and this has undone some of the positive sentiment that followed Friday's sharp drop in U.S. unemployment for September.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please help me to assist domestic violence victims by leaving a comment on this post ?Men Must Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence: My Personal Pledge.?
In this guest post, Rhachelle Nicol? discusses how domestic violence affects families.
?Who Suffers at the Hands of Domestic Violence?
My work as a caseworker was to ensure the safety of children and assist parents with accessing treatment services with the goal of reuniting families. What I realized early on was that domestic violence did not just affect the children and those in the relationship but also other family members, schools and communities at large.
In some cases it was history repeating itself, a generational curse, that was manifesting itself in the lives of those who had witnessed the abuse as children. Families were estranged because of the vicious cycle that plagued them.? Grandparents were unable to prevent their grandchildren from being placed in foster homes because of a record revealing their own history of abuse, some were victims some perpetrators. Informing grandparents that they couldn?t get their grandchildren uncovered wounds that had yet to be healed.
During meetings, my requests for family members to be present as support were important, but, to my surprise, rarely heeded. Family members had become insensitive, unconcerned or just too preoccupied with themselves to help. Unfortunately, in cases where there was minimal family support the likelihood of parental recovery diminished.
In sports when a player is wounded or injured, they have to sit out. Until that player heals, the entire team suffers.? There is no difference in our families. When parents don?t recover ,the children are removed from their homes with no hope of returning
I am always amazed by how the community responds when asked to open their homes, nurture those that have been wounded and assist them on their journey toward healing. Most take the charge and assignment seriously while there are a few who victimize the children even further.
For children, moving to a new home is just the beginning of their challenges. They don?t just transition into the home of a stranger but in most cases a new school and community.
So while many may turn a blind eyes to the abuse, it is still effecting our communities directly and indirectly.? Those effects are witnessed in adult relationships and friendships, how we choose to communicate and relate to one another.? It shows up in the classroom and on the playground. No one is immune.
October is recognized as domestic violence awareness month, get out and get involved.

What?s up with Kanye West? After deleting all of his tweets from his timeline for no reason, he returned to Twitter on Friday (Oct. 5) to salute Apple?s late co-founder Steve Jobs on the one-year anniversary of his death.
Yeezy wrote a few tweets to express his appreciation for Jobs, writing, ?HE IS ONE OF THE MOST INSPIRING AND INFLUENTIAL HUMAN BEINGS OF OUR EXISTENCE ALONG WITH MICHAEL JACKSON, WALT DISNEY, AND DR. KING.? He then added, ?LET?S BE THANKFUL FOR HIS LIFE AND RESPECT HIS LEGACY BY NEVER COMPROMISING ON OUR FUTURE.?
West wasn?t the only rapper to remember the visionary tech maverick who gave us the iPhone and iPad. Lil Wayne went on Facebook to salute Jobs as well. ?RIP Steve Jobs?1 year ago,? he wrote with a photo of himself looking at his macbook.
But there is still no word on why West decided to clear his Twitter feed. The ?Throne? rapper was known for his quotable tweets and hilarious ruminations on life. The last time he was on Twitter he asked his 8.6 million followers if it was appropriate to use the B-word or the N-word in rap songs.
Before he gave an elegiac shout-out to Steve Jobs, West did leave one tweet for his fans: ?BE BACK SOON.? So where is he going? Who knows?
What do you think? Are you glad that Kanye West left Twitter? Tell us in the comments below.

Rosie O?Donnell wants to help out Honey Boo Boo and the youngster?s family in a big way ? by offering to but a house for the clan.
In an interview with People, Rosie said she?s a big fan of the reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and can even do a perfect impression of Mama June. Her affection for the show and the family goes far beyond most other viewers, as the comedian and former TV host wants to help out Honey Boo Boo and family in a big way.
?I?d love to meet them,? Rosie O?Donnell says, ?and buy them a house.?
The offer, whether sincere or not, would certainly be a big help for the family. Their home in McIntyre, Georgia, has railroad tracks running through the backyard, not the best or safest environment, especially for a child as energetic as Alana.
Even if the offer is something of a joke, it appears Rosie O?Donnell?s love for the family is definitely sincere.
?I love Mama June. I love Sugar Bear. I love Chubbs,? she said, referring to some of the family members by their nicknames. ?I love ?em all.?
Rosie O?Donnell saved some of her biggest praise for the star, 7-year-old Alana Thompson, affectionately referred to by the family as Honey Boo Boo. Rosie compared her to the pinnacle of child stars, Shirley Temple, and said that Alan has ?a presence and an intellect that goes way beyond her years.?
Honey Boo Boo and her family may not need Rosie O?Donnell?s help if they want a new house. As The Hollywood Reported noted, the family is seeking a raise for their next season and wants $10,000 per episode.
Guest post regarding online reputation management for solicitors.
Negative mentions about a business or its products on the internet could hit a company in the balance sheet, and once a company has a poor online reputation, it could spread like a virus. Companies need to take ownership of their online reputation to avoid potential disaster.
Over 85% of purchasers research the web for reviews and feedback before making a purchase, and 70% of potential customers will not make an inquiry if they read negative mentions of a brand or company. Only 5% of purchasers look beyond the first page of search results, showing how vital it is to ensure that bad reviews and mentions are kept to a minimum.
Mark Hall, Managing Director of Gotjuice.co.uk ? the online reputation management company ? says: ?Every business should be in full control of their online reputation. When a customer searches for a company?s name or brand, the first pages from the online search results should show nothing but positive mentions. If this isn?t the case, then the business will be losing out on new sales.
?Quite often we work with companies faced with disgruntled former members of staff, unprofessional competitors or ? in extreme cases ? ex-partners who post unjust and fake web content in the form of reviews or blog posts,? says Hall. ?These may go unnoticed by the company for quite some time, and have a devastating effect on new sales. It is important that you search for your company name and brands on a regular basis, and respond with the right action where appropriate.?
Gotjuice.co.uk recommend the following tips to ensure any business or individual can stay in charge of their online reputation:
Always be prepared for the worst
This could be as simple as creating profiles on all review and social platforms such as LinkedIn, Google+, TripAdvisor, Twitter, Yelp, Qype and sites relating your industry. This will ensure you can respond quickly by putting in a process before any negativity gets out of control.
Ask for reviews
When asking for a review its important that you do just that and ask for a review, don?t ask for good reviews and don?t ask until you have completed the transaction, with your customer, otherwise you may appear too ?needy?. Let the customer know that the company takes their opinions and feedback seriously and that you constantly monitor your progress to improve customer satisfaction.
Become a Guest Author
Create relationships with industry sites and become a guest author. Ideally, the site would feature your author biography and company name, and the higher quality the website the better the chances will be of the content appearing on the front page of search results
Get your name out there with interviews
Seek out interview opportunities or if asked say ?yes?! Any time you have an opportunity to mention your company name in a positive light is worth the while. This could be a blog post, newspaper article or even a podcast, which all stand a good chance of appearing in the search results pages
Publish a Book on Kindle
This is a little more time-consuming but well worth the effort. Not only will you and your business be seen as an authority which will result in new sales, but thanks to Amazon?s authority, your author page and your book for sale page should both rank well in the search results.
Have someone ?own? your online reputation in house
Allocate responsibility to a team or individual within your business. If you are a larger organisation it may be necessary to have a dedicated spokesperson who has undergone media training so that they can respond to any questions with confidence.
Identify all possible risks
It is good practice to identify all possible risk scenarios that your business could face in times of a reputation crisis.
Identify your brand ambassadors
Having a list of brand ambassadors is a very effective tool for when you need a friendly face to help seed positive press, this could be bloggers, journalists, industry thought leaders and happy customers.
Always be listening
You must always have an ear to the ground to listen out for both negative and positive comments. Visit review platforms, search on Google News, results from major search engines, as well as analysing the latest content from Twitter. This can be time-consuming, and it is always more effective to use a low-cost solution such as the Got Juice Reputation management portal to oversee this for you.
Budget for your reputation
You may need to issue press releases, pay for advertising or engage with an online reputation management company should a serious negative issue arise. Bad press, a damning newspaper article, or one-star rating on page one of search results can really harm your business. Negative reviews, are difficult to remove, so it is well worth preventing these before they happen.
Run a good business
The easiest way to ensure you don?t receive negative mentions is to simply run a good business and ensure you have a process in place to gain new reviews. By offering high quality, great service and good value customers will promote you, and you will reap the benefits.

The MintyBoost reigns high as one of the most popular, recognizable DIY projects of all time, allowing you to turn an Altoids tin into a compact power source for your iPhone or iPod. Since the origination of this project, however, Apple changed how their devices charge and caused third-party chargers to work less-efficiently. Now there's an upgrade.
The exterior design hasn't changed: your MintyBoost still fits nicely in an Altoids tin, but MAKE notes that things are a little different on the inside:
The secret is in the high-efficiency power conversion circuit; it's up to 83% effective, so from your two AA batteries you get 2.5 times more power than you'd get from a 9V battery!
If your MintyBoost's busy collecting dust or you've never tackled this project before, now's the time to make your own backup power for your iDevice.
Olympic legacy: Tackling the 'East London Diabetes Belt' is a major challengePublic release date: 4-Oct-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]
Contact: Katrina Coutts k.coutts@qmul.ac.uk Queen Mary, University of London
A study by Queen Mary, University of London researchers has shown the scale of the challenge facing those in charge of delivering the Olympic legacy. In three London boroughs they have found that, overall, as many as one in ten of the local population has a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes within the next ten years. In some areas close to the Stratford Olympic Park up to one in six adults are at high risk.
The study, published in the British Journal of General Practice [1], analysed half a million electronic records for all people without diabetes, aged between 25-79, and registered with a GP in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham and City & Hackney.
Using a scoring system known as the QDScore, the researchers were able to predict the percentage of the population that were at high risk (a 20% chance or more) of developing type 2 diabetes within the next ten years. They then applied this information to a map of the boroughs to produce a geospatial map that showed the level of risk in different areas, with 'hot spots' in areas of high risk [2].
"We found the risk of diabetes is very high, with about one in ten people being at high risk overall, and in some parts, such as the north-eastern corner of Newham, rising to around one in six," said Dr Dianna Smith who created the map and is a lecturer at the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, part of Queen Mary, University of London (UK). "There is a geographical band of high risk across East London, which we've dubbed the 'East London Diabetes Belt' that runs near the Olympic Park and corresponds to some areas of deprivation and a high proportion of South Asian and Black ethnic groups."
The study found that approximately 50% of people with known cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure were at high risk. Other factors in the QDScore that increased the risk were: male gender, increasing age (20% of 40-79 year olds were at high risk), deprivation and obesity. Ethnicity affected risk, with more than twice as many people of South Asian ethnic origin at high risk (16.4%) compared to the White population (7.5%).
"Diabetes and obesity (one of the main causes of diabetes) are a major source of ill health and hospital admissions. The cost to the health service in the future will be extensive if we don't help people to control their risk. This is a gold medal moment at the start of the Olympic legacy period to prioritise tackling chronic disease and capitalise on the enthusiasm for physical activity generated by the Olympics," said Dr Douglas Noble, a public health doctor at the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health, who led the overall research.
Professor Trisha Greenhalgh, who was also part of the research team, said: "As a former national athlete [2], I can see few things more important than the health and wellbeing of the next generation. We know we've got an extensive problem in East London with lack of physical activity and poor dietary habits, which contributes to obesity and diabetes. Once diabetes has been diagnosed, it's an uphill battle to get it under control. It's far better to prevent it in the first place. Highlighting the risk of diabetes gives people a chance to make important individual choices to reduce their risk. Increasing physical activity and eating more healthily, which leads to weight loss, reduces the risk of diabetes regardless of ethnicity or deprivation."
The researchers say the study could be used to help policy makers and planners design effective public health strategies that are targeted particularly at the groups most in need. "Mapping risk revealed the 'East London Diabetes Belt' and this could help to plan actions at local and national level to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, particularly in regard to the Olympic legacy," concluded Dr Noble.

Steve Jobs, co-founder and CEO of Apple, CEO of Pixar, driving force behind the popularization of the Mac, of iTunes and iPods, of Apple Retail, of the iPhone and iPad, and of Apple itself, passed away one year ago today.
A temperamental, triumphant, fallible, transcendent technologist and artist, his taste, sensibility, and the sheer breadth and audacity of his vision more than dented our universe -- it shaped our culture and our lives, and helped empower us to dent universes all our own.
You shook the world, Steve, and we were shaken at your passing. But technology goes on, Apple goes on, and while we're lessened without you, what you left behind makes us so much more.
